The Pitching Crew

The infield will continually practice with myself or Ernest or Michael pitching in between the pitching crew coming in one at a time to throw until they walk a batter. This will keep everyone busy and keep batting practice a priority. We need a coach at the plate to throw balls to the infield between hits.

Depth Chart. This shows an assessment of the position depths as of now and is subject to change with time

Here is my plan to get the guys that want to pitch the opportunity and keep our edge to have the best chance to win games.

Every week we will prepare 4 pitchers (the pitching crew). The crew this week consists of #1 Ernest #2 Jeb #3 J Allen and #4 Collin. Numbers 2, 3 and 4 will compete for the start in the game by throwing drills scoring strikes against how many throws it takes to reach 15 strikes. Then they will pitch to batters in the practice field until they walk one. The pitching crew must come to both Tuesday and Thursday practice or they could be bumped off the crew for the week. The #1 pitcher will finish the game after the starting pitcher (#2) walks three (maybe four if they are close) or does two innings which ever comes first. the player earning the #3 spot will be back up for the game. We will ad one more to the pitching crew for a double header week. A player can earn the #1 spot over Ernest with excellent pitching and Ernest will start some of the games against G#2. The team that took us pretty good last week. The #4 spot for the week is idle but can make the pitching crew again.

Warm up
This is the warm up routine and once you have done this you will have your warm up done for the game and can go to the pop fly drill for a few catches. Players completing their drills first will be up for captain of the game

15 throws 1/2 base distance
15 throws 3/4 base distance
15 throws full base distance
10 pushups
10 jumping jacks
20 stretches
jog a lap around the outfield

A throw must be caught to count for your numbers

Base signals
We need to organize our base running signals at the next  practice. Our pitching coach did most of the base coaching at third last year so I don't have set signals. We will use suggestions and memorize them. The players will be in charge of coaching first base and the captain for each game will designate players as needed. Ernest and Michael the other coaches will set the signals and coach third base.

Rainy Days........... The fields will take some rain and be OK so unless it is raining real hard or lightning we will try to get the game done, even in a light shower

Things to remember:

  •   There are two important things in Life and Baseball, Control and Discipline. If you own it your self, you don't allow the world the world to do it for you. What this means is respect, focus on the task at hand, working your hardest, cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, poise and ready-ness are best to come from within you. The best players will understand this and use it to excel and make the plays on the field of Life and Baseball. Any time you lose your temper, dis a team-mate, complain about a position assignment, disrupt the flow of the practice or meeting, not be focused on the field, or engage in horseplay, you give it to me to do for you.
  •   Always over-run first base. You will reach it faster by increasing your speed until you reach the bag. You will never be out if you touch the base with your foot first, then slow down and curl to the right and back to the bag.
  •   You cannot leave the base until the ball has crossed the plate. If you are not careful to do this you will be sent back.
  •   Always check the play on a fly ball. A caught fly means you have to tag the base you are leaving from after the catch before you can take another base. If you are caught off the base on a caught fly you will be put out.
  •   Batting cages anytime you can get there will greatly improve your batting average.
  •   When throwing think one-two-three. (ONE) Catch the ball and turn toward the the throw balance on back foot ,(TWO) take a step toward the throw starting your throwing motion, (THREE) release the ball attempting to point your forward foot directly to the target and use your wrist with a dart throwing motion for accuracy.
  •   We are going to have a lot of fun!!!
  •   Work hard and it will pay off. I am very impressed by the practice ethic's of several of our players. I won't surprise me to hear about them going pro one day. Believe me when they ask me for something I will do my best to give it to them. This will win games for us.
